Many dance schools place students in classes based solely on age. At Princeton Ballet School, age is only one factor in determining a student’s placement. Our placement process allows us to place each student in an ability-appropriate class. Please continue reading for placement class information (at bottom of this page).
This evaluation process continues throughout the student’s time at Princeton Ballet School with evaluations given at the end of each school year.
Lisa de Ravel, Dean of Students, is available to help all families with student placement and advisement. Lisa is a former ARB company dancer and faculty member who also serves as Alumni Relations Coordinator.
For students with no previous experience or who haven't studied in several years, the following classes for are available for registration at any time, space permitting:
Children's Ballet 1 (ages 5-6)
Children's Ballet 2 (first grade and up)
Middle School Ballet (ages 10-14)
These classes are available at Princeton Ballet School's Princeton, Cranbury, and New Brunswick locations, and the School's new Downtown Princeton location.
Adults (age 13 and up): Open Enrollment Classes for Beginners
Adult/Open Enrollment Classes are available for dancers ages 13 and older who are interested in dancing on a drop-in, pay-per-class basis. Students may also enroll in these classes if they intend to attend the same classes regularly, or may purchase a class card to receive fifteen hours worth of classes at a discounted rate.
For Students with Prior Experience:We look forward to finding the right class for your child, and to helping her or him grow as a dancer. We offer placement classes that allow us to assess the level of your child so that they can thrive in the most appropriate environment.
Placement classes are conducted for entering students with prior dance training for 1st-5th graders, and for 6th and up. They are not an audition -- we welcome all to Princeton Ballet School -- they merely help us find the most appropriate class for your child.
Placement Classes do not necessarily take place at the studio where you wish to study. They are set up based on level and availability of appropriate faculty members.
Placement Classes are not drop-in events, and all dancers will participate throughout the entire class time. Placement Classes during the year are arranged during an actual class. After the class, the teacher will consult with our Dean of Students, who will then contact you to discuss registration.
